Fishing in the Pamlico Sound, formed between the Outer Banks and mainland North Carolina, provides excellent fishing opportunities. Fishing at the Outer Banks provides superb inshore fishing. Many fishing grounds in the north and east of the Pamlico Sound have a lot more anglers than on the western, or mainland side. Based just outside of Engelhard, NC, in Hyde County, I will provide the best fishing experience in the area. My flounder gigging trips are based out of Oregon Inlet and Pirates Cove on the Outer Banks.
Types of fish found here are drum, tarpon, cobia, flounder, gray trout/weakfish, speckled trout/spotted sea trout, bluefish and more.
Imaging and experience us heading out to the fishing grounds as the sun starts to come up over the horizon. I will guide the boat to the fishing spots where we will start filling your cooler.
North Carolina Red Drum Fishing
North Carolina’s Pamlico Sound is home to the world’s largest Red Drum. Every summer, these Bull Red Drum visit our coast by the thousands. These Old Drum are some of the most fun possible on a rod and reel. Spending an afternoon catching trophy Red Drum as the sun sets into the Pamlico Sound is one of the most enjoyable experiences I can remember. Kids especially love seeing the giant old beauties.
Adult red drum enter North Carolina’s inlets to find spawning grounds in late summer. NC’s brackish marshes are superb habitat for sub-adult redfish to grow and mature. What’s amazing is that many of the giant adults are 30 (or even 40) years or older! To that end, I take this fishing experience very seriously. I use large gear to ensure the fights aren’t detrimentally taxing on these amazing creatures. After all, the future breeding of the species is dependent on the healthy survival of these old drum. With the proper equipment, we can make sure these fish live to swim and spawn for many more years.
If you’d like to catch a Giant Redfish you can contact me online, or call me anytime at 252-542-0011. In my neck of the woods, we have limited wireless broadband coverage. The best way to reach me quickly is by telephone. I look forward to catching some Giant Pamlico Sound Red Drum with you soon!
North Carolina Tarpon Fishing
From late June through August, North Carolina’s Pamlico Sound hosts a tremendous tarpon migration. Catching these giant Silver Kings is truly inshore big game fishing. North Carolina is one of the best places in the world to catch a giant tarpon over 100 pounds. For some reason, we catch very few tarpon less than 100 pounds…we only get the big boys! We catch many tarpon in excess of 150 pounds!
North Carolina tarpon fishing, however, is much different that you see on many television shows. I don’t know of a verified account of a tarpon being caught on fly in North Carolina. But don’t let that persuade you that it’s not intense fishing! We often fish schools of thousands of fish. Seriously. We are often in the midst of acres of tarpon. It’s an experience you’ll never forget.
If you’re ready to catch that giant tarpon of a lifetime, you can contact me online, or call me anytime at 252-542-0011. In my neck of the woods, we have limited wireless broadband coverage. The best way to reach me quickly is by telephone. I look forward to catching some Giant Pamlico Sound Red Drum with you soon!
Flounder Gigging
Better than fishing and a lot of excitement can be found with flounder gigging. This is nighttime “fishing”, where you’ll use flounder gigs, or spears, the spear the flounder. You’ll experience a rush like nothing else when flounder gigging with me, Captain Adam.
My style of gigging will keep you in the boat as we find the founder, sheep head and mullet. We’ll use the lights to find them and bring them to the cooler.
